Jasper Cillessen

Liverpool are ready to make a move for Jasper Cillessen after Loris Karius made another mistake during their pre-season win against Tranmere Rovers, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t ESPN).

The report claims that Jurgen Klopp is willing to bid £30million for the Barcelona keeper and the player in question is also considering the proposal.

Cillessen has been the No.2 for Barcelona for a number of years and only played nine games for the La Liga giants last season. Most of his games came in the Copa del Rey and he only played one league game for the club.

While Cillessen has not been able to get a lot of game time at the Nou Camp, Chelsea are also interested in the 29-year-old should they lose out on Thibaut Courtois.

Better options available for Liverpool closer to home

The Dutch keeper certainly has the ability to be great for us but the major problem could be the price of the player.

While Cillessen is 29 and by no means a young goalkeeper, most players in this position continue starring until they are 34/35, so that would not be a problem.

Cillessen would also have some rustiness given his lack of playing time for Barca and moving to the Reds would immediately cast the spotlight on the 29-year-old.

Maybe sticking with what we have at the club is a better option. We can always try to sign someone in the winter window if things don’t go right in goal.
