Former Crystal Palace chief Simon Jordan has questioned Liverpool’s signing of Xherdan Shaqiri and has even gone as far as to say that the player was a slob last season for Stoke.

Jordan was speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Express) where he called the signing “curious”.

“There’s no doubt that quality wise, Shaqiri has a quality.

“I thought he was a slob last year for Stoke and Charlie Adam couldn’t, and possibly didn’t want, to say it to that extent.

“It’s a curious, curious signing. Maybe because [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain is out. I don’t see that as a like-for-like but maybe it is.”

While Shaqiri might seem like a player who is a little arrogant on the pitch, Jordan is certain that Liverpool will be able to keep the player in check at Anfield.

“He can’t think he’s bigger than Liverpool, so maybe they’ll be able to manage him from that point of view.”

Shaqiri might not have been an expensive signing at just £13m but it is one that certainly improves the overall quality of the side.

There is no doubt that he is unplayable on certain days when he is in the mood but Jurgen Klopp will have to be a little careful about how he uses the former Stoke City man.

Shaqiri probably will not start most games at Anfield and this should be a situation that Klopp and player would have discussed. Hopefully, we will see the best of Shaqiri as he aims to light up Anfield and helps the side play some fantastic football.
