Simon Mignolet

Simon Mignolet of Liverpool has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Jasper Cillessen as a goalkeeper at Barcelona.

Marca (h/t Mirror) claims that the Catalan giants have drawn up a list of goalkeepers who will challenge Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the goalkeeping spot in Barcelona.

The other players on the list include Yann Sommer, Koen Casteels, Marko Dmitrovic and Geronimo Rulli. While the former two ply their trade in the Bundesliga, the latter two play in the Spanish league.

Mignolet’s spot in the team is certainly in question after we signed Alisson from AS Roma. The Brazilian should be the No.1 for us. We have also sold Danny Ward to Leicester City, so we might see Loris Karius remain at the club.

Mignolet hasn’t had the best of times under Jurgen Klopp and he should have been sold a while ago. The Belgian, who is 30, is a good shot stopper but he isn’t convincing when it comes to dealing with air balls and communicating with the defence.

If Barcelona or any other club wants him, we should just sell the player and not think about it twice. Mignolet hasn’t really been a problem in the side and with Karius and Alisson in the side, we should sell him as soon as possible.

He won’t be starting too many games at Barcelona but playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world could appeal to the former Sunderland keeper.
