Liverpool’s summer spending has Joey Barton claiming that the Reds could be close to winning the Premier League title.
We have brought in four signings this summer, with Alisson, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho moving to Anfield.
Barton, who is an Everton fan, stated that we could be really close to picking up the coveted crown. The former Manchester City and Burnley man was speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Express) where he said:
“I honestly think they could get really close to their first title in 20-odd years. It will be really close.”
Barton also added that the work done by Jurgen Klopp and the Reds is worrisome for the blue half of Merseyside.
“When we look across Stanley Park, no matter what any of us say, and see the big German [Jurgen Klopp], the style they’re playing, and the way they have invested again – it’s nervous times for Evertonians.”
Klopp’s spending certainly has attracted the attention of many this season. Jose Mourinho also had his say and the Portuguese amped up the pressure by claiming that we need to win trophies now.
That has been the one aspect missing from Klopp’s time at Anfield. For all the great work done by the German, we have not won any silverware so far.
Klopp has lost every single final with the Reds. However, by signing quality players to add to a decent side, we have a realistic chance of picking up a title this time.
