Ben Woodburn is set to join Sheffield United on loan from Liverpool before the start of the Championship season, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

Woodburn, 18, has impressed during the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States but is unlikely to see a lot of first-team opportunities this term.

The Wales international has been withdrawn from the Reds squad that flew out at the start of the week for their week-long training camp in Evian. After pulling out of the squad, Woodburn will undergo a medical at Sheffield United’s training ground before completing the deal, reports the Liverpool ECHO.

Sheffield, under the management of Chris Wilder, won League One in 2017 before finishing 10th in the Championship this past season, just six points below the playoff spot. Wilder’s team are known for playing a high-octane, attacking brand of football that is quite similar to Jurgen Klopp’s style at our club.

As per the report, Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa side were also interested in securing Woodburn’s services on loan, but Klopp has carefully considered the options available for the 18-year-old, who is expected to be a star at Anfield in the near future.

Our boss is happy to see Woodburn leave Anfield for Championship football on a temporary basis this season and believes the Kop starlet will challenge for first-team football in 18 months.

It is a mighty opportunity for Woodburn to showcase his talent at Bramall Lane and return from the Championship as a stronger, sharper and mature player.
