Liverpool’s new keeper Alisson is set to play with the squad number 13 and has passed up the opportunity to take up the No.1 jersey, according to UOL Esporte (h/t Mirror).

The report claims that the Brazilian decided that he would not take up Loris Karius’ jersey number out of respect for the German keeper.

Karius has had a torrid time in recent months at Liverpool and has been linked with a move away from the Reds. German side Bayer Leverkusen wants to sign the former Mainz keeper up.

The report from the Mirror also claims that Alisson made the gesture as Karius is low on confidence. Even though Alisson would not be taking the No.1 jersey, there is no doubt that he is our first-choice keeper for the season.

The Brazilian should help reduce some of our goalkeeping woes this season. Alisson is expected to do a better job between the sticks when compared to Karius and Simon Mignolet.

The report claims that Jurgen Klopp is looking to sell both Karius and Simon Mignolet ahead of the season. Taking the German out of the firing line was the right thing to do for Liverpool. However, it will be interesting to see how Karius reacts to sitting on the bench once the season starts.

The German might want to play more games but he would probably get to start a few cup ties next season.
