Liverpool might have swatted West Ham United away in the first match of the Premier League season but Jurgen Klopp is adamant that the season will be tough for the Reds.

A brace from Sadio Mane and goals from Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge wrapped a comprehensive win at Anfield but Klopp was quoted by the Express as saying that this was not the perfect start for us.

“It was not a perfect start but really good and we extended a really good pre-season into the Premier League.

“We know about our expectations and we know there is a really positive atmosphere around us in the pre-season – that is good. But this season will be unbelievable hard.”

The German knows that the Reds have not won a lot in recent years and have never won the Premier League either. The manager also added that we would have to be ready for the big challenges coming ahead in the season.

“West Ham will play a good season but they are not the Uniteds or the Citys. We have to be ready week in, week out, for the challenges.

“We haven’t won anything for a long time so we have to invest more, we have to fight more and then we will see where it leads us.”

Liverpool have come close under Klopp on three occasions and the last one saw us miss out on the Champions League after losing 3-1 to Real Madrid.

However, we have bought well in the summer and our pre-season was great too. The Reds haven’t sold any of their star players in the summer either and if we play regularly like we did against West Ham, our trophy duck under Klopp will come to an end soon.
