Joel Matip

The Liverpool Echo reports that a number of senior players that did not start in our 4-0 win over West Ham took part in a match at Melwood on Saturday.

There was some good news for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool as Joel Matip played a decent chunk of the match. The former Schalke defender hasn’t featured for us since the US Tour due to a thigh problem.

Matip came back home from the US but played 60 minutes in our 5-0 win which also saw a few youngsters team up with the senior figures.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool had players such as Xherdan Shaqiri, Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke all scoring. Solanke scored a brace while the other players got one goal each in our 5-0 win.

The other stars on display were Alberto Moreno, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Nathaniel Clyne.

Matip’s return will be a huge boost for us given that we only had Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk as the only fit central defenders for our previous game. The report also adds that Dejan Lovren would be back after a month and Ragnar Klavan is still unfit.

The Cameroon defender might need a bit more time to get back to full fitness but he could play a few minutes in our next game just to get back to the pace of the Premier League.
