James Milner will play in a charity match at the weekend as he takes on former teammate Stiliyan Petrov in Glasgow to raise funds for battling cancer.

Petrov was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2012 and has enlisted the services of a number of former Celtic stars such as Robbie Keane, John Hartson and Henrik Larsson, as per the report.

Milner has brought in former Reds John Arne Riise, Emile Heskey and Jamie Redknapp, as per the Liverpool Echo.

Milner and Petrov played together during their time at Aston Villa and the Englishman was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:

“To go through what he went through was tough on him and his family.

“Especially when you see what the disease can do to someone as strong as him. Then you think what it would be like for a young child or woman nowhere near as strong as Stiliyan.

“So anything we can do from our fortunate position as football players with our profile we’ll do.”

Milner hoped that the match would raise a lot of funds for people battling cancer and also roped in Jurgen Klopp to manage one team while the German will go against former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, as per the report.
