Joe Gomez and Liverpool are in talks over a new contract, as per the Mirror.

The report claims that the Reds are keen to reward the Englishman for his recent form. Gomez has started all four of our Premier League games this season and was called by Gareth Southgate for the international break.

Gomez underwent ankle surgery at the end of last season and missed our Champions League final against Real Madrid. The youngster wasn’t fit for the World Cup and had to watch his teammates finish fourth in Russia.

The central defender joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in 2013 and has four years left on his latest deal. The report adds that the Englishman penned a new contract last January but Liverpool want to increase his wages to match some of our first-team stars.

Gomez certainly has grown leaps and bounds under Jurgen Klopp and it seems difficult for any other defender to replace the Englishman.

His partnership with Virgil van Dijk is blossoming with every game and Gomez could keep out more experienced professionals like Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip for the rest of the campaign.
