Mario Gotze

Former Borussia Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreutz believes Mario Gotze should move to Liverpool in hopes of igniting his career.

The Dortmund attacker hasn’t played any Bundesliga football this season under Lucien Favre. Gotze did start in a Champions League game against Club Brugge which Dortmund won 1-0.

Grosskreutz was speaking to Sky Deutschland (h/t Daily Mail) and defended the Dortmund star for some criticism levelled against him.

“I am very sorry for Mario Gotze at the moment, because stuff is written about him every day – and only about him.

“In Bruges, for example, the whole team didn’t play well.”

The 2014 World Cup winner further claimed that Jurgen Klopp knows his former teammate well and a move to Anfield would be great for the 26-year-old.

“Maybe it would be good to go abroad in the winter, where he has a bit more peace, and to bring his career back on track. Klopp knows him very well, he would be a good fit for Liverpool.”

Liverpool were linked with a move for Gotze before he rejoined Dortmund (h/t Independent) but the German hasn’t been in top form for a few years.

The 26-year-old is a top talent and Klopp could get the best out of him but it would be difficult fitting him inside this team.

Our first XI is extremely strong and it would be difficult to see Gotze replacing any of our attackers or midfielders. The German could be a decent squad player, however, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to fight it out for a spot in the starting XI.
