Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne has emerged as a target for Leicester City in January, according to the Mirror.

The 27-year-old missed a major chunk of last season with a back injury and barely featured for the side. Clyne, who currently earns £70,000-a-week, has started just one game this season for the Reds in the League Cup against Chelsea.

The Englishman was a starter for the Reds under Brendan Rodgers but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rise has pushed Clyne out of the team.

The youngster has been excellent since breaking into the Liverpool team and the report adds Clyne is ready to move for regular football.

The report claims that Leicester are in the market for a right-back, and are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.

The Englishman might feature in some games this season, but it is difficult seeing him usurp Alexander-Arnold from the starting XI.

The former Southampton man is a decent player to have, as his experience could be useful in the latter stages of the season.

Clyne provides us with a decent option on the bench if we are to rest Alexander-Arnold. Even if Leicester require a right-back, it would not be a smart move to let him leave.

The Reds might need to keep cover for their young defender this season, and the former Saint is the perfect answer to that problem.
