Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has claimed that Dele Alli made the right decision joining Tottenham instead of Liverpool.
The Liverpool Echo reports the English attacker was heavily linked with a move to Anfield, and his idol was Steven Gerrard while growing up.
Alli has been excellent for Tottenham since moving to the club from MK Dons, and Murphy was speaking on The Debate (h/t Liverpool Echo) and credited Spurs for the development of the 22-year-old.
“Let’s give Spurs some credit here, they’ve given him a platform every week to progress as a young lad coming out of the lower leagues.
“If he had gone to Liverpool, which he nearly did, I’m not sure he would have played as many games.
“Yeah (credit Pochettino) working with him on the training pitch, the club in terms of going we’re gonna go get him, get him, get a manager who is going to invest in the youngsters and obviously work with him on the training pitch, spot on.”
Alli signed a new deal with Spurs which keeps him at the club till 2024 and Murphy believed the Spurs man would not have featured as much in the first-team at any other top-six side.
The Tottenham attacker could have become one of the best had he signed for Liverpool but Murphy does have a point about the youngster not getting enough chances to play in the first-team.
