Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has claimed that FSG want Jurgen Klopp to win the Premier League and the Champions League rather than any other tournament.

The Reds were knocked out in the third round of the FA Cup after Klopp rested several first-team players. Liverpool were also knocked out in the early stages of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea.

Speaking to ESPN FC (h/t Daily Star), Nicol highlighted the plight of Kenny Dalglish, who was sacked after he won the League Cup:

“Let’s not forget, that Kenny Dalglish got the sack after winning silverware at Liverpool, and losing the FA Cup final. So, work that one out.

“So the owners want the Premier League and the Champions League clearly.”

The former defender further claimed that the game had changed as all trophies meant something to players during his glory days.

“The FA Cup was absolutely huge, it for me was basically the player’s tournament.

“But times have changed, and now it’s about Premier League and Champions League.”

Liverpool haven’t been lucky under Klopp after losing three cup finals, the latest was our Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

The Reds have finished in the top four in the previous two campaigns, but lead the Premier League at the moment.

Liverpool lost their last Premier League game against Manchester City, but that was the only blip for us in the league campaign so far.

We have a four-point lead over Manchester City and face Brighton at the weekend. The Reds are in a great position to lift their first Premier League crown, and if Klopp achieves that, no one will be talking about the FA Cup defeat for long.
