Jurgen Klopp was not happy with some of the decisions by referee Martin Atkinson in the 1-1 draw against Leicester City. The draw opened up a five-point lead at the top of the table, but it could have been more had the referee made the right calls.

Naby Keita was fouled in the penalty box after half-time but the ref did not point to the spot. There was another contentious decision when Sadio Mane was fouled in the Leicester half and he was through on goal, but Atkinson only produced a yellow card for Harry Maguire.

Speaking after the game, Klopp claimed the 1-1 result could have been alright given Leicester’s chances, however, he was unhappy about the penalty not being given and the yellow for Maguire (h/t Sky Sports):

“Even when I think everybody agrees that there could have been a penalty, maybe should have been a penalty. I don’t know why it was no penalty and then we have the situation with Maguire.

“It’s now the second time in a game where a striker from my team, somebody brings him down at the halfway line and we treat it like it is I don’t know where.”

The German added that Mane would have been through on goal with Mohamed Salah too. The situation would have been a 2v1 against Kasper Schmeichel and believed this was a real goal-scoring chance:

“If that’s not a real chance and goalscoring situation then I don’t know.”

Liverpool started the game brightly, taking the lead via Mane, but Maguire levelled before the end of the first half. The Reds didn’t create much going forward and have to plan for their next game, which is at West Ham.

Hopefully, the Reds get back to winning ways and ensure they keep a five-point lead over City.
