Former Liverpool player and three-time league winner Gary Gillespie has rubbished claims of the team bottling the title challenge.

The Reds have drawn their last two games and Manchester City are leading the Premier League, albeit having played a game more.

The two teams are tied on the same number of points and Gillespie was not happy with suggestions that the Reds are making a mess.

Speaking on the Snods and Diz Show (h/t Liverpool Echo), the former player highlighted an interesting stat regarding the form of the two title rivals:

“In the last 10 games Man City have dropped 12 points Liverpool have dropped seven. City have lost to three of the teams outside the top six, Liverpool have drawn with two. And it’s perceived that we are bottling it?

“It’s all about perception.”

Gillespie further claimed that people could write what they wanted since the Reds had drawn their last two games and that they were out of it. However, he highlighted that Manchester City were told they were out of the race when they were seven points behind us.

The former Red wasn’t happy with these statements and called them “stupid”.

“Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense.

“People who have never been in football and don’t appreciate it and don’t understand what winning leagues and winning titles is all about make stupid remarks.”

Gillespie claimed the title would be decided in May, and that was when we could see if the Reds made it to the top of not.

The former star added that playing away at West Ham is always a tough game, and that there would be ups and downs until the end of the campaign.

Gillespie concluded by saying that we didn’t lose these games and these points were good for us as we could have easily lost the game against Leicester.
