Latest Liverpool news: Virgil van Dijk tries something different in training

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League thanks to a last-minute winner against Tottenham.

Toby Alderweireld produced the own goal that sent Anfield crazy, and the Liverpool players were back in training ahead of a tough trip against Southampton on Friday.

Virgil van Dijk was one of the stars in our win over Spurs, and the Dutch defender took part in some goalkeeper training and seemed to be great in that position as well.

The centre-back seemed fit to face his old club on Friday, despite picking up a knock in the win over Spurs.

Another player that had a huge role in the win on Sunday was Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian’s header caused the own goal and he seemed to be in great spirits ahead of the Saints clash.

Players all smiles in training

Southampton have been in decent form in recent weeks and have three wins in their last five games.

However, the players looked to be in great spirits with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Georginio Wijnaldum raring to go.

Dejan Lovren did not play against Tottenham but he seemed to be enjoying training alongside Fabinho, who was good after coming on in the second half.

James Milner did an alright job in midfield on Sunday and was back in training.

There was more good news for Liverpool as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain trained with the rest of the team, and his return to the first-team should come soon.

Naby Keita wasn’t played in the win over Spurs, and it will be interesting to see if the Guinea midfielder gets some game time on Friday.
