Liverpool transfer news: Klopp interested 17-year-old Rangers prospect as he enters the final year of contract

Latest Liverpool transfer news: Liverpool interested in Rangers youngster Josh McPake

Mailsport (h/t Daily Record) claims that Liverpool are one of the big European clubs interested in Josh McPake of Rangers.

The 17-year-old hasn’t played a senior game for the Gers but was impressive in the SFA Youth Cup final against Celtic.

The report adds that the youngster has been voted as the Academy Player of the Year, and he has just one year left on his current deal.

Rangers want to keep the player at the club for longer and want to tie down McPake on a long-term deal, according to the report.

The other clubs interested in the Gers youngster are Borussia Monchengladbach and AS Roma, and Steven Gerrard spoke highly regarding McPake (h/t Daily Record):

“I rate Josh very highly but I don’t want to add any pressure to him.

“Josh was outstanding against Liverpool last week and at Hampden on Thursday he was part of a really strong team performance.”

McPake can play as the central striker, right-winger or as the right-back, and the report claims he could feature for the first-team this season.

Signing youngsters is always a bit of a risk as we can never be sure of what the future holds for them.

McPake could turn out to be a fantastic player in the future, and it will be interesting to see his progress for the remainder of the campaign.

Liverpool already have some quality youngsters away on loan and at the club. Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson have done extremely well at Hertha Berlin and Derby County respectively.
