Latest Liverpool news: Stephen Warnock claims Liverpool’s past experiences are key to Champions League final

Former Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock believes the Reds’ experience in the Champions League could be the key ahead of the final on 1 June.

Liverpool made it successive Champions League finals under Jurgen Klopp after they destroyed Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final.

The Reds face fellow Premier League side Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano and defeated Spurs twice in the campaign this season.

Warnock was quoted by Sky Sports speaking about Liverpool’s history of making finals under Klopp. The German led us to the Europa League final and to the final of the Champions League last season, both of which we lost:

“Liverpool’s experience of having been in three European cup finals in three years will be key because they know what to expect in the build-up to the game and the hype around it, the expectation.

“I think Liverpool have that advantage.”

Warnock provides warning against Spurs

The former left-back added that Tottenham’s lack of finals experience might not be a problem for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Englishman added that reaching a final with the group of players that Spurs have is a great achievement and that they will have more freedom when they face the Reds on Saturday.

A final doesn’t always go according to form and Liverpool have to be a little wary of the threat possessed by Tottenham.

Harry Kane should also play a role in the final while the attacking duo of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura can cause us problems.

However, Liverpool have dealt with several final heartbreaks under Klopp, and this could be the best chance for the German to open his trophy account at Anfield.
