Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds interested in Matthijs de Ligt after Champions League win

German outlet Bild (h/t Express) reports that Liverpool have entered the race to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The 19-year-old is one of the best defenders in the world and starts for the Dutch national side next to Virgil van Dijk.

The Ajax defender has already caught the interest of Manchester United and Barcelona, and the report claims that the pair were considered favourites to sign the centre-back.

The report claims that De Ligt could be Jurgen Klopp’s next transfer after the Reds picked up the Champions League trophy. Liverpool beat Tottenham in Madrid and won their first title under the German on Saturday.

Liverpool to bolster their defence

De Ligt is an incredible talent and will only get better in the years to come.

The 19-year-old already captains his Ajax side and playing alongside Van Dijk will only make our defence stronger, which seems difficult after the great season we had.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez did excellent jobs for the Reds this season, while Dejan Lovren also chipped in well when called into action this season.

Liverpool could do with additions in other positions such as another forward or a full-back, but getting De Ligt would still be fantastic.
