Liverpool FC transfer news: Nathaniel Clyne to be sent out on loan next season

The Liverpool Echo reports that Nathaniel Clyne is likely to spend next season out on loan too. The 28-year-old found first-team starts hard to come by in the previous campaign and joined  Bournemouth in January.

Clyne will be on the final year of his contract next season, and the report adds that the Englishman wants first-team football.

Bournemouth haven’t provided any hints of signing Clyne permanently (h/t Liverpool Echo), and the 28-year-old faces immense competition for places at Liverpool.

Several options available for the right-back position

Trent Alexander-Arnold is possibly the best right-back in the Premier League and it will be tough to replace him in the first-team.

The youngster’s set-piece deliveries and crosses are important for the Reds, and Clyne is not on the same attacking level as Trent.

Joe Gomez can play as a right-back while Jurgen Klopp deployed James Milner and Jordan Henderson in that position last season.

Clyne is a solid defender but his attacking output is limited. Liverpool’s style is dependent on the full-backs doing a lot of work in the final third, and the 28-year-old just does not suit the role.

Sending the right-back out on loan would see him gain first-team minutes, but we could lose out on some money as he would be a free agent at the end of the season.
