Liverpool FC transfer news: Lovren agrees to join Roma in the summer
Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren has agreed to join AS Roma in the summer.
The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order at the club last season and has seen more competition arrive in the transfer window.
Sepp van den Berg has looked decent in the pre-season and the 17-year-old could feature in some of our games this season.
The report claims that Liverpool would be open to selling Lovren for £15m due to the relationship between the two clubs. The Reds signed Alisson and Mohamed Salah from the Italian giants, and the pair has been excellent for the club.
Alisson was the star in the final of the Champions League a couple of months ago while Salah scored the opening goal in the win over Tottenham.
Not the right time to sell Lovren
Although the Croatian should get more starts at Roma than Liverpool next season, selling him now isn’t the right move from Liverpool.
We have barely eight days left for the season to start and losing Lovren would reduce our options at the back.
The 30-year-old is also one of the most experienced defenders in the Premier League and finding a replacement will not be easy.
Van den Berg is still raw and needs time to develop while Joe Gomez has had his injury problems since moving to Anfield.

That leaves us with just Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk as the senior centre-backs for the upcoming season, and they cannot play every game of the campaign.
