Latest Liverpool news: Salah claims VAR can help him win more penalties

VAR has already made the headlines in the Premier League with some goals being chalked off, and rightly so.

Manchester City were the biggest losers last weekend as Gabriel Jesus’ last-minute winner against Tottenham was ruled out after Aymeric Laporte’s arm came in contact with the ball just before the goal.

Mohamed Salah has also weighed in on the use of VAR in the Premier League and the Liverpool star is not a fan of the technology.

Speaking to CNN (h/t Liverpool Echo), the forward claimed that he liked the emotion of the game, which included mistakes:

“I don’t like it… that’s my answer, always. I don’t like it.

“I love football how it is. It’s like that with the mistakes of the referee, with the aggression from the player sometimes.”

The Egyptian added that he understands the use of the system to protect players from “dangerous play”, however, it was the mistakes from stars and the referees that made the game more exciting for him.

The former AS Roma star did end his reply by suggesting he would benefit from the system:

“(VAR will mean) More penalties for me, you will see that.”

Mo Salah, more penalties?

The Egyptian certainly gets into some dangerous positions in the box and his quick feet catches out the opposition.

There have been several instances of the forward not getting the right call with the referee taking the opposition’s side.

However, if VAR gets involved, Liverpool should win more penalties. We have quick forwards with great footwork, which causes loads of problems to the opposition.
