Liverpool handed January boost in Erling Haaland chase

Former Norway international Erik Thorstvedt believes Erling Haaland could be signed in the winter window.

Liverpool have been linked with the Salzburg striker, and the Express claims that the Reds could sign the 19-year-old in January.

The teen has six goals from three Champions League games this season, which is a record. Haaland also is the first teen to find the back of the net in each of his first three appearances in the competition.

The youngster came off the bench to score at Anfield in a losing cause a few weeks ago and scored a brace in Salzburg’s 3-2 loss to Napoli. Gazzetta Dello Sport’s Nicolo Schirm added that the Reds had scouted the 19-year-old in the clash against Napoli (h/t Express).

Thorstvedt was speaking to TV2 and claimed that Salzburg are a selling club, which could see Haaland leave (h/t Express):

“There may be someone who will take a chance in January to move in first. And then let him play at Salzburg for the rest of the season.

“Salzburg are a selling club and they will sell when they will get the most money. If it is next summer that they will get the most money for him, they will sell then.”

Haaland won’t leave on the cheap

The Express adds that Salzburg won’t let Haaland leave on the cheap and the Norwegian is contracted with the club until 2023.

Liverpool have signed players in the past and sent them back on loan at their respective clubs. Marko Grujic and Divock Origi are two examples, and it will be interesting to see if Haaland is a serious target for us.
