Neil Critchley could be in charge of Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa

Liverpool face a tough task of playing two games in two days in December. The Reds face Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on 17th December and play their Club World Cup semi-final the next day.

Another problem for the Reds is that the Club World Cup takes place in Qatar and that includes a lot of travel for the players.

The Liverpool Echo claims that several academy players could feature in the Carabao Cup clash. The report also adds that our U23 manager Neil Critchley could manage the side against the Villans.

Jurgen Klopp is yet to decide whether he will travel to Qatar for the first game or watch the match against Villa. Should the German leave for Qatar, Critchley is expected to take over unless assistant manager Pep Ljinders remains in England with the side.

Critchley has been the U23 manager since the 2017-18 season and arrived at Liverpool in 2013.

Interesting choices lie ahead for Liverpool

Liverpool have never won the Club World Cup and that is a trophy we should target.

However, the game against Villa could put a spanner in the works. It will be interesting to see what kind of team we put out in the Carabao Cup.

The youngsters did well to beat Arsenal on penalties in the previous round, and they could put up a great performance against the Villans too.

Ditching a corporate job to follow a dream isn’t easy, but when football comes calling, who can say no? Been following the beautiful game since 1998. Liverpool addict, F1 fanatic!

Liverpool dealt Manchester United blow in Erling Haaland chase

Erling Haaland has been in brilliant form for RB Salzburg this season.

The 19-year-old striker has already scored 26 goals for the Austrians in all competitions this season.

Haaland has even scored in each Champions League game this season and has seven goals in the competition already.

The youngster’s form has attracted the attention of several top clubs, and Liverpool have been linked with the teen (h/t Mirror).

The Mirror adds that Manchester United are also interested in the 19-year-old, and the Red Devils seem to be in the lead.

Dagbladet (h/t Sky Sports) claims that our rivals are the favourites to land the forward.

Haaland was also managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde, and it will be interesting to see where the Norwegian can end up.

Liverpool have a great attacking unit

Our first-choice front three have done a great job over the past two years, and they have continued in the same vein of form this time too.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were on target in the win over Manchester City while Roberto Firmino does a lot of the running and hard work.

Haaland could fit into our side but would possibly have to spend time on the bench too. The Reds have other attacking options too, but we could do with more competition for Salah and Mane.

Moving to United would be a bit of a risk given that they aren’t in great form. The Red Devils are outside the top four currently, and have struggled for consistency under Solskjaer.

Liverpool, on the other hand, lead the league and are in a great position to qualify from their Champions League group.

Liverpool to make a big move in January?

The Reds don’t normally make big moves in January under Jurgen Klopp.

Virgil van Dijk is the only big player we signed during the winter window under the German, and it will be interesting to see if we make any moves in a couple of months.

Lorenzo Insigne is now being linked with Liverpool, and the report adds that the Reds would be interested if he becomes available.

The 28-year-old hasn’t been in great scoring form with just four goals and five assists this season.

Napoli are also winless in their last five games and lie 13 points behind Serie A leaders Juventus.

The Italian normally operates on the left wing but can play as a central attacking midfielder too.

Liverpool to add another forward in January?

The Reds have one of the best attacks in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane sharing the Golden Boot last season while Roberto Firmino does a lot of hard work too.

Salah won the Boot in his debut season with the Reds, but there are some injury concerns at the moment.

The Egyptian will not feature during the international break and it will be interesting to see when he returns.
