Liverpool have reportedly tabled a bid of £5 million for Arsenal’s French left-back Gael Clichy.
Clichy, 25, has 12 months remaining on his current Arsenal and has told that he wishes to leave the club this summer. Arsene Wenger would be unwilling to lose Clichy on a free transfer next summer so may decide to cash in on the pacey full-back.
Left-back has been a problem for Liverpool for several years and Kenny Dalglish has identified Gael Clichy as the man to solve the problem for the reds. Liverpool’s Director of Football Damien Comolli was the man who bought Clichy to England as Arsene Wenger’s scout at Arsenal and now the Frenchman is keen to bring Clichy to anfield.
Glen Johnson played the second half of the season in that position and performed admirably but he would like to revert back to his natural righ-back berth. With Paul Konchesky not winning over the Liverpool crowd and Fabio Aurelio constantly in the treatment room, Liverpool have made finding a settled left-back a priority this summer.
Out-of-favour Liverpool star on Ligue 1 outfit’s radar for the winter
The report claims that Patrick Vieira isn’t happy with his goalkeepers at the Ligue 1 club and could be provided money to strengthen his side in the winter window.
The Ligue 1 side are doing decently in the competition and are quite close to securing a Champions League spot. Nice did lose a couple of stars in the summer with Jean Michael Seri and Alassane Plea leaving the side.
Mignolet, for his part, has seen limited playing time at Anfield this season. Loris Karius was shipped off to Besiktas on loan but with Alisson Becker coming in from AS Roma, the Belgian has become our second-choice goalkeeper.
The only game Mignolet has played was against Chelsea in our loss in the Carabao Cup. The Belgian keeper needs to play regularly to keep his spot in the national side, and selling him in the winter window does make sense for Liverpool as well.
However, we should agree on a deal only if we have a quality back-up for Alisson. The other options in the team are a couple of youngsters, and maybe we could promote someone like Caoimhin Kelleher instead of spending in the winter window.
Liverpool interested in signing 18-year-old starlet from Mallorca
The youngster has played for the Mallorca youth team and has been their top scorer for the last three years. The report adds that De Baunbag has been promoted to the club’s B team but will drop down to the U18 side when facing some of the bigger sides, such as Barcelona this weekend.
The report adds that the 18-year-old is expected to play for the senior side at the end of the campaign. Mallorca are eighth in the second Spanish division with four wins from 12 games.
The Reds have a number of quality youngsters in their attack. Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent are all trying to break into the first-team with some stars away on loan.
Liverpool have senior strikers such as Dominic Solanke, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge all trying to usurp Roberto Firmino as the main striker in our side.
De Baunbag has a long way to go before we can consider him good enough for the first-team. The youngster will go into the youth team at Anfield, should we sign him, and it will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming months.
Liverpool handed boost in pursuit of 21-year-old Bundesliga starlet
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Jonas Boldt has confirmed that Leon Bailey would not be sold in the winter window but are open to letting him leave in the future.
“The conversation was good. We all know that Leon will eventually leave.
“But we have made it clear that a winter transfer is out of the question.
“He also knows that he has our backing.”
The attacker scored nine goals and chipped in with six assists from 30 Bundesliga games last season, however, he has been quiet this term with one goal from 10 league games.
The report adds that the youngster extended his stay at the Bundesliga club until 2023. Leverkusen aren’t in a great position in the league this season with 11 points from 10 games.
Bailey has formed a great partnership with a couple of other Leverkusen players in Kai Havertz and Julian Brandt, and it will be interesting to see how he progresses throughout the campaign.
The other clubs interested in the Jamaican include the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea, according to the report, and there could be a bidding war for the 21-year-old come the start of next season.
