Liverpool go for Frei

Liverpool will be offering a trial to the Swiss Goalkeeper Stefan Freis, 25.

The cousin of the Swiss national team’s leading goalscorer and slayer of Manchester United with Basel FC Alex Frei, is currently plying his trade for MLS outfit Toronto FC and will be training with the Reds during the US league’s close season until 18th December.

It’s not sure whether the move will become permanent but it’s understood that Frei would complete a move to Liverpool if offered the opportunity. First team opportunities would, however, be unlikely as Frei will have to compete with Pepe Reina and Summer signing Doni in order to get a sniff of any first team playing time.  However, as a resident “en Suisse” I can confirm that Frei is very highly regarded in his home country, and it wouldn’t surprise if Dalglish moves Doni to third choice behind Frei.
