Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli has lauded Kenny Dalglish for his contribution since returning to the club last year.

The Anfield club ended a trophy drought spanning six years as they saw off a spirited Cardiff City on penalties to lift the Carling Cup at Wembley on Sunday.

Liverpool’s French director believes all the success Liverpool have had in the last twelve can is down to the Scottish managers efforts.

Roy Hodgson’s shambolic reign did so much damage at the club and it’s no wonder Dalglish has been praised so heavily given the change of fortunes since his return as manager for a second time.

“It is not only about getting us to the final or winning against Cardiff on penalties,” said the Frenchman.

“The final was a bit of a lottery because you can score a penalty or miss a penalty and you are a hero or a zero, which is unfair.

“It is overall you judge the performance of the club and the progress – not just the penalty which goes in or out.

“What you want is a progression and I think for the last 12-14 months we are showing progression everywhere on and off the pitch in terms of squad structure, the players Kenny has to choose from, the young players the academy is producing and who are coming through.

“It is all positive. Someone asked me last week about Kenny doing a great job because we had got to the Carling Cup final but for me he has been doing a great job all around.

“He has done a tremendous job to put the team back on track and put a positive atmosphere back in the changing room and around the training ground.

“He is a positive person and gives confidence to everyone: to the staff, backroom staff and players.

“He has done brilliantly and I am happy to give him as much support as I can.

“From day to day we know exactly what we are doing. We have put a structure in place which I think will bring back success to the club.

“We have so much to play for in the rest of the season and hopefully we can build up on what we have done.

“We are very ambitious and we do not want to stop here. Our season is not over here, it is just starting.”

Plans to bring players in for the summer are already in motion as the Anfield revolution is starting to pick up significant momentum.

“We already know there are big players who want to join us because they believe in the project and what Kenny and the club are trying to do,” he added.

“The fact we are playing in Europe and have won a trophy are all positive things.

“There is a positive vibe around the club around Europe.”

The Birmingham Mail claims that Liverpool are one of the several Premier League clubs interested in Tom Bayliss. The Coventry City midfielder did a great job as he helped his club gain promotion to League One.

The 20-year-old is an England youth international and has racked up 73 appearances for Coventry over two seasons.

The report claims that the youngster was a subject of two bids from Derby County in January 2018, and a fee of £3million could be enough to sign the midfielder.

Merseyside rivals Everton have also been linked with Bayliss while West Ham United, Aston Villa and Leeds United are also keeping an eye on the talent (h/t Birmingham Mail).

The report adds that the youngster has been watched by Premier League sides in the previous campaign and is regarded as one of the brightest talents in League One.

Coventry’s chief executive Dave Boddy also claimed there have not been any bids for the player, but there is a lot of speculation on his future (h/t Birmingham Mail).

Latest Liverpool transfer news: Dejan Lovren’s salary is a problem for Serie A clubs

CalcioNapoli24 (h/t Daily Star) claims that Napoli are interested in the services of Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. The report claims that AC Milan and Napoli are offering Lovren the chance of regular football.

The Croatian fell down the pecking order at Liverpool last season, with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip preferred to partner Virgil van Dijk.

The 29-year-old Lovren started 11 Premier League games and did a decent job throughout the campaign, however, the lack of games has left Lovren considering his future, according to the report.

Napoli can offer Champions League football for the centre-back while AC Milan will participate in the Europa League next season.

The problem for both clubs lies in Lovren’s wage demands. The report claims that the Croatian wants £4.5m-per-year in wages and has two years left on his Liverpool contract.

Milan News (h/t Daily Star) adds that Lovren’s representatives were in Milan to discuss a possible move to the San Siro. The report claims that Lovren is interested in playing for the Milan giants and a deal worth £25m is being discussed.

Klopp would have to enter the market to replace Lovren

Lovren has been a quality member of the side and has always given it his all. Should he decide to leave for regular football, we have to sign a replacement. Liverpool had some defensive headaches, with fractures for Matip and Gomez last season, while Lovren also suffered a few injuries.

The Reds cannot go into the season with only three senior centre-backs, and it will be interesting to see what actions are taken regarding Lovren in the summer.

Liverpool FC transfer news: Ajax want £30m for Hakim Ziyech amidst Liverpool interest

The report adds that there could be a battle for the Moroccan as Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the attacker earlier.

Serie A side AS Roma have already bid for the 26-year-old while there is interest in Ziyech from Germany and Spain (h/t Mirror).

Marc Overmars, Ajax’s director of football, added that Ziyech would leave in the summer, but the report claims that the Moroccan isn’t keen on any of the bids that the Dutch giants have received.

The 26-year-old scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists for Ajax last season. Ziyech can play in several positions but his best performances came when he was deployed as a winger.

Liverpool could do with a versatile attacker

Ajax’s asking price isn’t too high given the performances of Ziyech last season, and he would make an excellent signing for the Reds. The Moroccan can provide cover for several positions and can take up the role of an attacking midfielder under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have a great team at the moment and a few quality additions could improve us further.

Ziyech would not be a starter for the Reds, but he could be a game-changer off the bench in some of the tighter clashes.
