Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, faced his first defeat with Liverpool against Crystal Palace two weeks ago. He will be looking to move forward when they face league table leaders, Manchester City, at their home ground. Liverpool have problems facing Manchester City at Etihad, but they also had problems facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. But Jurgen Klopp broke those problems and defeated Chelsea and he will be looking to do the same against Manchester City. But, what all things should Klopp do to defeat Manchester City.
Here are three things that we think Jurgen Klopp should do to win against Manchester City.
1. Inject Confidence in Dejan Lovren:
Lovren was supposed to Liverpool’s answer for their defensive problems last season when he was bought for 20 million from Southampton, but he ended up as a flop. He was never able to establish himself in the starting line-up. He showed his abilities on few occasions, but was never able to perform consistently. He played full 90 minutes against Rubin Kazan (Away) and put up a fine performance and also kept a clean sheet. Two weeks ago, when Sakho got injured he came on as a sub and again put up a fine performance. Last of his two performances for Liverpool have been good and Jurgen Klopp should help him build on it. This week against Manchester City, Liverpool will be without Mamadou Sakho and Lovren will be starting as center back for them. It is a big game and Lovren should fill the gap left by Sakho effectively. For this Klopp should make sure that Lovren is mentally fit for by injecting confidence in him. A run of good performances may boost his confidence and will help him hold down a starting eleven spot.
2. Start James Milner:
Liverpool bought Milner from Manchester City for free during this summer transfer window. He has not been able to live up to the expectations at Liverpool. He was named the vice-captain of Liverpool and even captained the side during Henderson’s absence, still he could not find his form. His work rate can be seen in his game, but he has not been able to turn into goals and assists. He has just returned from an injury and a question stands that whether Klopp should start him ahead of Joe Allen and Emre Can (There is no way that Lucas will be benched). If I was Klopp, I would start him and also give him the captain’s armband (Henderson won’t return this week). Let him play against his old club. A return from injury will be a fresh beginning for him. And his high involvement in the game can be expected.
3. Play The Klopp Way:
Liverpool may not have a good record at Etihad, but Klopp’s tactics are good enough to win the match for Liverpool. Liverpool had a bad record at Stamford Bridge and Klopp broke it and defeated Chelsea there. But, Manchester City won’t be as easy as Chelsea was. Klopp’s ‘Heavy Metal’ football can make the game a lot easier. All he has to do is make sure that all of his players do what he wants to be done in the right way. Gegenpressing can win matches for Liverpool because of the hard working players they have. And also Philippe Coutinho is back in form for Liverpool and he has a problem of scoring against City, so Coutinho will be a key player in the game.
