Three Critical Positions That Need Upgrading In The January Transfer Window By Liverpool

Centre-backs

Liverpool

While we do not have an issue with the left sided centre-backs at the club Sakho and Lovren, they are both currently injured alongside Martin Skrtel leaving the defence bereft of an experienced and equally top of his game defender who can don the Liverpool colours in the immediate future.

Klopp needs to bring in a centre-back or even a centre-back pairing to add some much needed muscle and depth to the defence. A few good names could even lead to a healthy competition for the starting spot, something that has not been too evident in the Liverpool sides of late.

Ilori and Maguire featured against Exeter but neither of them looked convincing enough to put in a solid performance against a top side in the coming weeks.  Moreover, none of them are organizers or leaders, something very essential to a top defence and the very critical element missing in the current side. Yes, Sakho does come close, but he is in and out of team too often to leave a lasting impact on the rest.

Striker

benteke

Christian Benteke was a very expensive experiment waiting to go wrong and it has done so in the worst possible way according to us. The injuries to Ings and Origi along with the perennially absent Sturridge has left Klopp with only the Big Ben and he has done nothing to justify his selection once any of the aforementioned names are back fit.

We believe it’s time the hierarchy at Anfield realised that the situation with Sturridge won’t improve drastically and make a move for one of the few top class strikers who would be willing to move. Part of this move should be funded by the price we can salvage from the possible sale of Christian Benteke who has failed to impress despite the numerous opportunities presented to him.
