Can Liverpool Build On Wednesday’s Win?

Liverpool were impressive in seeing off Exeter City at the second time of asking with a resounding 3-0 win over the League Two opposition in our FA Cup third round replay last night. The result means at the end of the month we will be facing West Ham United at Anfield.

More important matters are to be addressed first, starting with a trip to Norwich City this Saturday lunchtime.

Heading into the final 16 games of the 2015-16 Premier League season we are eight points off the Champions League places and don’t look like a team good enough right now to sneak in, but a lot can change between now and the end of the season.

One has to wonder if the League Cup semi-final, potential final, and participation in both the FA Cup and Europa League will have a detrimental effect on our league performances over the coming months as our fixture list continues to pile up.

Three points are a must at Carrow Road on Saturday if Liverpool are to make any headway on those top four places, with Tottenham Hotspur, unpredictable and inconsistent themselves, hanging onto that final spot currently.

Norwich City are a side out-of-form, having lost three straight in all competitions and conceding exactly three goals in each of these games – beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in the FA Cup, 3-1 at Stoke City and 3-0 at struggling Bournemouth last weekend.

This is a perfect opportunity for three points this weekend against a side that Luis Suarez used to have his way with.  Can Roberto Firmino be that man this weekend?  The Brazilian has certainly shown good form of late and capability of scoring goals.

Anything less than a win would certainly be a disappoint.  Jurgen Klopp does have a sizeable injury list to deal with, no doubt – but the quality we have available with the likes of Firmino, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Jordon Ibe, Adam Lallana and Emre Can – we should be beating teams like Norwich without thinking about.
