Liverpool thrashed Man City 3-0 on a cold windy night at Anfield and got revenge for the heartbreaking loss at Wembley three days earlier. The reds were cruising throughout the course of the 90 minutes and arguably this was the most complete performance under the enigmatic Jurgen Klopp.
Let’s take a look at the three things that we learned from the game:
1. Jon Flanagan is here to stay:
Despite making his first start since 661 days, the local boy never looked out of place. He handled the threat of Raheem Sterling really well and made some crucial last ditch tackles. Simplicity is Flanagan’s biggest strength, and as Henderson recently stated, He should be handed out a new contract real soon.
2. James Milner is the best bit of business that Liverpool did in the summer:
Commitment, work rate and loads of experience; these are the things that can be associated with James Milner. The former Man City man had the best 90 mins in a Liverpool shirt scoring a fine goal and providing an assist for Adam Lallana. Defensively too, Milner provided a lot of cover for the fullbacks.
3. Man City lack desire:
They needed to make a statement after the victory at Wembley that the blues were in the title race but they let it all slip. The citizens looked weary and no one provided the inspiration that was needed to take on the reds. Man city need to win all of their games to win the championship in May.
