Liverpool have had a great run of games as they gear up for another big one as they travel to Old Trafford for the second leg of the Europa League encounter. At Anfield, the Reds were outstanding throughout the game. They dominated possession and created a lot of chances on goal. The match finished with a resounding scoreline of 2-0 for Liverpool in spite of the heroics shown by David De Gea.
A lot of pundits have predicted that Liverpool will park the bus in the second leg and sit back and defend. But looking at Jurgen Klopp’s track record, he is known to be more aggressive in the return legs where his team has already secured victories in the first ones. Also, Liverpool enter the match after a much needed week long break and Klopp’s men will certainly be looking to demolish things at Old Trafford. Here is a look at the predicted line-up of Liverpool.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
GK: Simon Mignolet
Defense: Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno
Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno have been the first choice fullbacks for Jurgen Klopp and he should favor them for this match as they bring in a lot of pace at the back and they make a lot of runs tormenting the defenders. Man United have shown weakness to the attacks from the flanks, and this duo can certainly trouble the likes of Blind and Varela. Mamadou Sakho has shown improved signs of fitness and fatigue and should partner with Dejan Lovren at the back. Liverpool need to ensure a solid backline and not concede early goals.
Midfield: Can, Milner
Emre Can has had a brilliant run of form in the last few games and he is gradually establishing himself as the first-choice defensive midfielder at Anfield. Jordan Henderson faced a lot of criticism in the British media in the last week due to his performances lately. He was expected to take the mantle be a potential replacement for Gerrard. But his inconsistency is seemingly visible. James Milner should start ahead of Henderson because of his tremendous work-rate and ability to hold possession.
Attack: Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge
Klopp will certainly want his players to be on the front foot and not sit back and defend. He should opt for the terrific trio of Coutinho, Lallana, and Firmino. Roberto Firmino has been brilliant and we can expect him to hit the net at Old Trafford. Lallana and Coutinho can take the wider positions and provide the killer balls inside the box for Sturridge and Firmino.
