St Mary’s stadium witnessed the comeback of this season when Southampton came from 2-0 behind to beat Liverpool 3-2 in the second half. Sadio Mane, a second half substitute scored a brace while Graziano Pelle scoring the other. Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge were the scorers for the reds.

Klopp

Tonight’s performance represented Liverpool’s season perfectly. When a win would have got Liverpool close to the top four, this unbelievable loss has put the chase for the Champions League spot on the back foot. Jurgen Klopp’s substitutions failed miserably and was one of the key reasons for this result. Complacency is least required with some important fixtures coming up after the International break.

Take a look at today’s player ratings:

1. Simon Mignolet: 6.5

Stopped a penalty brilliantly from Mane but was partially responsible for a weak clearance for the third goal.

2. Nathaniel Clyne: 6.5

Defensively strong in the first half. Needs to improve on his attacking output to the team.

3. Mamadou Sakho: 7

Continuing his rich vein of form. Looking solid as a rock with each game passing by.

4. Dejan Lovren: 5.5

Not a good game for the Croatian. Licked an unnecessary booking and was subbed off at halftime.

5. Jon Flanagan: 5.5

It must be a proud moment for the local lad to captain his hometown club after signing a new contract this week but he faced a torrid time in the second half. A night to forget for the youngster.

6. Emre Can: 7.5

The German engine is steadily becoming an integral part of the time. Fine performance from the 22-year-old with some good attacking thrust in the first half.

7. Joe Allen: 6

Decent outing for Allen, kept the play ticking nicely but needs to contribute more defensively. His miss proved very costly for the reds.

8. Philippe Coutinho: 7

Most influential player for Liverpool and scored a typical Coutinho goal. Faded away in the second half with the introduction of Victor Wanyama.

9. Adam Lallana: 7

Massive work rate shown by the former Saints Skipper. He was involved in every good move for Liverpool and looked lively.

10. Divock Origi: 6.5

Good performance from the Belgian and showed his dangerous pace again at St. Mary’s. Liverpool have a future star if they keep hold him. .

11. Daniel Sturridge: 6

Scored a brilliant goal but was quiet the whole game after that. Lacks match fitness.

Subs :

Martin Skrtel: 4

After coming out of long term injury, this was not the comeback that was expected from the Slovakian. Pathetic display by one of the experienced player in the squad.

Christian Benteke: 6

Missed a glorious opportunity to win the game for the visitors but failed to make an impact on the game.

Sheyi Ojo: N/A

Ojo came on late and couldn’t be judged in such a short cameo.
