Opinion: Why This Liverpool’s Flop Striker Would Be A Great Option For West Ham

Christian Benteke failed to impress Klopp yet again when he was given a chance in the away game against Southampton. He was presented with a glorious opportunity that could have put Liverpool 3-1 up and the game to bed but he missed to convert it into a goal. Klopp also had an on-field exchange with the Belgian striker with the Belgian striker. Benteke has time and again failed to impress the supporters and the worth that was invested in him at the start of the season. The Belgian was already under the radar of a lot of teams for the summer transfer window and the latest team to make an approach is West Ham.

Benteke

The co-chairman David Sullivan had to say the following about the 25-year-old Belgian striker,

“He’s a player we admire but the problem is that he is on huge wages that no club can afford. What we don’t have is 20-25 goal a season striker. If we did we’d be even higher up the table.”

West Ham have had the services of Andy Carroll who also had a similar history with Liverpool. He was transferred to Liverpool for a whopping 36 mn pounds but did not manage to shine at Anfield. He has also not been a great striker at West Ham and Sullivan clearly mentioned the need for a quality striker up-front for The Hammers. When Benteke was asked about how he felt at Liverpool and not getting the starting nod from Klopp this is what he had to say

.

“Some team-mates have said that I was lucky with the arrival of Klopp, because I certainly would play. When your coach says he wanted to take you to Dortmund and a little later you sit at the same club and he ignores you, it is hard to understand.”

A move away from Anfield this summer seems almost certain for Benteke. West Ham looks a likely destination for Belgian striker as the style of play followed by the Hammers suits Benteke’s game. He is not a striker who will do a lot of pressing and be that aggressive which is why he was not favored by Klopp. But his style will certainly be appreciated by West Ham as they do not press much and believe in playing deep. Also, Metro in one of their reports mentioned that West Ham have set aside a budget of 40 million pounds for a striker and if the Reds and the Hammers come to an agreement a move is certainly possible.
