Renewed hope, same old disappointment ; this has been the story of Liverpool FC this season. After getting beaten on penalties in the League Cup final but still being in Europe, this squad has shown a fighting spirit that they want to excel in this team.

With the departure of Raheem Sterling, this season got off to a bad start and Brendan Rodgers became the casualty for the bad start. In October, the arrival of a new manager united the fan base to such an extent that was never seen before. Well, it can be said that is the aura of Jurgen Klopp.

Though the results have been inconsistent, it has become sure that the German is the man for the future. Let’s take a look at the three things that are learnt from this season :

1. Liverpool need a new goalkeeper :

There is no doubt that the goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet is the weakest link for the side. Klopp must be looking for a better man between the posts and there are many good replacements available. The Belgian is a good shot stopper and overall a good gk but that is not the level that is required at the club. He has made many errors and replacing him is the need of the hour.

2. Roberto Firmino is the real deal :

Firmino

The Brazilian arrived from Germany with a lot of expectations and he hasn’t disappointed the fans. Though he had a slow start to his Liverpool career with Rodgers not utilising him well and many people labelling him a flop, he has worked his socks off under the new gaffer and changed the perception about him. Firmino has been the best player of the league in 2016 and has been instrumental in Liverpool’s victories with him being the highest scorer of the Club. When the Club were crying out for a player to stand up, he stood up and it is crucial that Klopp needs to build his team around Firmino.

3. Liverpool need to clear the dead log :

There are many players in the squad undeserving to be at the club and needs to be sold in the summer. Jurgen Klopp has to be ruthless and make some space in the squad for the new arrivals. In his first summer window at Dortmund, he sold seven players and it seems that will be the case at Liverpool too. Simon Mignolet, Adam Bogdan, Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva, Jose Enrique, Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke needs to be sold to generate some money and bring in much needed new faces.
