Mahmoud Dahoud – the player who was instrumental for Gladbach and their campaign for the current year has been linked with Liverpool for a possible move over the summer. The 20 year old Syrian has been at the heart of Gladbach’s midfield and his abilities have been widely acknowledged by the fans and the German football experts. Dahoud made his first team debut for the German side in 2014 and since the arrival of the new manager Andre Schubert, the young player has been getting more chances in the starting line-up. He prefers to play in the center midfield position and is known for his attacking abilities. Dahoud also takes a lot of set-pieces for Gladbach and has almost cemented his position in the team.
Comparison with Gerrard
A lot of football pundits have compared his abilities to that of Gerrard because of his abilities to dictate in the midfield and keep hold of the ball. Dahoud has also shown a charisma as a leader in driving Gladbach’s midfield and primarily it is this quality of his that raises expectations and comparisons. However, at this stage, it is too early to compare to the legendary Liverpool skipper and the Syrian knows it. This is what he had to say when he was hinted about his brilliant abilities in the middle of the park. “I’m not taking my foot off the pedal and thinking I’m now a first-team regular. I prepare myself with the mindset that things will get harder, and if they do, I’ll fight my way through it again.”
Mahmoud Dahoud plays as a central midfielder and is also known for his defensive abilities. Klopp is in dire need of a backup defensive midfielder with Lucas and Allen having a doubtful future at Anfield. Emre Can is the first choice and the manager will be looking for a player who can play at central and defensive midfield positions. Dahoud might just be the right choice for Klopp at this stage.
Liverpool have players like Lallana, Coutinho, and Firmino who give that quality at the attacking midfield positions. They are also bidding for Gotze and a deal looks likely. The Reds need options at the central and defensive positions and players like Dahoud can be of great value for Jurgen Klopp in the next season. Also, big clubs like Manchester City and United have shown their interest in the talented kid and a summer move to England seems on the cards for the player.
