Liverpool have had a mixed season in terms of performances and there has been a definite miss in the strength and the depth of their squad. Jurgen Klopp is well aware of this and his focus is to add players who have played for big clubs and strengthen his existing squad. Liverpool have not had a brilliant season, especially in the defence. Initially, they were struggling to get the right combination at the back but gradually Lovren and Sakho have become the established defenders for the Reds. Alberto Moreno at left-back also did not have a very good season overall and Klopp is looking for his options. Considering this, Liverpool are in talks with the young center back from Paris Saint Germain – Presnel Kimpembe.
Kimpembe plays for the French club PSG and is a talented prospect according to their manager Laurent Blanc. The 20-year-old is a center back and is also known to play as a left-back if needed. Kimpembe is currently struggling to find a place in the first team of PSG with heavy competition from Thiago Silva and David Luiz and the youngster is aware that it will take time for him to break into the side. Keeping this in mind; the center back might be tempted to make a summer move to a side where he could get his game time. As of now, the youngster has made six appearances in total for the French side and is a part of the U21 national team of France.
A possible move to Anfield
According to reports, Liverpool have approached the youngster and have made an attempt to get him at Anfield in the summer. Kimpembe will certainly not be the primary center back for Liverpool, but he can surely be a part of the first team in the near future. His French country-mate Sakho has done very well for the club and this might motivate the youngster to consider a move. Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure might be shown the door this season and Klopp will definitely need some backup defenders in his side. A young dynamic centre-back who can also play at the sides will definitely interest the German manager. PSG’s rivals Monaco had approached for a move during the January transfer window which was rejected by Laurent Blanc. Kimpembe was also approached by the Merseyside rivals Everton and a summer move looks on the cards.
