Liverpool vs Chelsea: Tactics, Injury News, Preview, And Manager’s words

Liverpool play host to Chelsea as Jurgen Klopp hopes to end the season on a high note by clinching a European spot with a finish in the top six. The Reds won the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge with two brilliant strikes from Philippe Coutinho as they came from a goal behind to win 1-3. However, a lot has changed for Chelsea since then including the manager and they are a different side than they were back then. Klopp’s men will have to s showcase a resolute performance if they are hoping to make a double.

Team News

Liverpool will have a major boost in the midfield with the return of Emre Can to full fitness. Klopp will still be missing the services of their skipper Henderson, Origi and Ings in the attack. Chelsea faced a major defensive blow in their last game with a suspension to their Skipper John Terry. They will also be missing the services of Zouma and Remy.

Recent Form

Liverpool have had a great run of form, especially at Anfield as they managed maximum points in their last three home fixtures. They will have a major boost with their advancement to the finals of the Europa League. Chelsea on the contrary have managed only a single win in their last five games and their last game was one that the fans would want to forget.

Tactics

Jurgen Klopp is expected to go with the similar tactics as he opted for the game against Villarreal as the Reds were outstanding on the night. With players getting the much needed rest, Klopp’s men will go for high tempo attacking football. Chelsea on the other hand will have to rely majorly on Hazard and Fabregas for the chances up front and with their Skipper injured they will have to sit tight in defence. Hiddink will be looking to target on set-pieces and hit Liverpool on the breaks with the pace of Hazard.

Manager’s words

Klopp looked confident in the conference and this is what he had to say.

“It’s how it is when you are at home, really strong and don’t give points away. I want to be, in the future, really consistent in all the games. For this we need a little bit of time. When I came here, we had a little problem at home, it was not too easy to win. We know Anfield is a special place.”
