Leicester City have managed to impress everyone with their dynamic team and one of the members who has captured eyeballs from different clubs in the premiere league is their 19 year old left-back Ben Chilwell. Liverpool are the recent ones to join the race and are linked with a summer move for the young left-back. The Reds are already linked with a couple of players for the left-back position and Jurgen Klopp is looking to explore his options. Alberto Moreno has been a weak-link in Liverpool’s defence and his replacement will be one of the priorities for the manager.

Who is Ben Chilwell?

The English left-back was a part of the academy of Leicester City and was also named the academy player of the year for the 2014-15 season. He was then quickly promoted to the senior team and made his debut in October in the Capital one tie against Hull City. Later on he went to join the Championship side Huddersfield Town and managed to impress the new manager and his fellow teammates. The manager of Huddersfield Town – David Wagner is known to have good ties with Jurgen Klopp and it is reported that the young left-back has impressed Klopp a lot. The Liverpool boss might consider him as a good option for the left back role.

A future at Anfield?

Chilwell is currently valued at £5mn and the Reds might be willing to spend this amount on him to fill the left-back role. Liverpool currently have the likes of Moreno, Flanagan and Joe Gomez for the left-back role. Gomez was out injured for majority of the season along with Flanagan causing a lot of selection troubles for the manager. Also, Moreno was not able to show his defensive prowess and was criticized every now and then for his lack to expertise at the back. Considering all this, Chilwell might be a good option for Klopp with the youngster giving depth in-terms of selection options. However, with Gomez expected to return to fitness and Flanagan already hitting the turf, it will be interesting to see how Klopp approaches this summer window.

Along with Liverpool, Arsenal are the ones who have also shown interest in the young talent. They had offered Leicester £3.5mn earlier which the Foxes rejected. The player fits in the style of play favored by Klopp and if it happens, will be an interesting buy.
