“Please sign a new left back”. This was what many Liverpool fans said after their lose against Sevilla in the Europa League final. Liverpool’s current left back, Alberto Moreno, who joined the Reds just two seasons ago has always had problems with his defensive duties. And according to many Liverpool fans, the Spaniard caused them the Europa League, which could have acted as a ticket to play in the Champions League next season.

Influenced by the fans or not, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are in the market for a new Left Back. A number of Left Backs have been linked with the Merseyside club. FC Koln’s Jonas Hector, Lorient’s Raphael Guerreiro, PSV’s Jetro Willems, Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi. These are just a few names. The media have linked Liverpool with many more Left Backs.

In this article we would like to talk about Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi. The French player might be looking to leave the relegated side and Liverpool is a possible destination.

Will Jordan Amavi be a good signing for Liverpool?

It was the last season that Liverpool bought Christian Benteke from Aston Villa for a fee of 32 Million. While Christian Benteke became Liverpool’s second most costliest transfers, that 32 Million fee was a big transfer fund for Aston Villa. With that fee, Aston Villa reinforced their sides by signing players like Jordan Ayew, Adama Traore, Jordan Veretout, Idrissa Gueye, Rudy Gestede, Scott Sinclair, Joleon Lescott, Micar Richards, etc. And Jordan Amavi was one of those players bought by Aston Villa last season. He was bought from Ligue 1 side, OGC Nice, for a fee of 11 Million.

The French Left Back is now 22 years old. He made his senior team debut for Nice B in 2011 at the age of 17. In 2013 he moved to OGC Nice and there he scored a total of 4 goals from 60 appearances in all tournaments. And then in 2015 he came to Aston Villa. Unfortunately, he got injured in the early parts of the season and could only play 12 games for the club (Managed to make 3 assists). He has been out since then due to a Cruciate Ligament Rupture. He is expected to make his return from injury during this summer. Even though he only played 12 games for Aston Villa he looked well settled and impressive.

Amavi is rated at 10 Million, but if the reports are to be believed Aston Villa are looking to sell him at a rate of 14 Million. But since Aston Villa got relegated they might be forced to sell him for a cheaper price.

Amavi is a very good dribbler of the ball. He is known for ball interceptions and tackling. He is also good in the air. He likes to play long balls and is an indirect set-piece threat. Jordan Amavi’s preferred leg is left, but he is totally fine with his weak foot too. He can easily deliver crosses from left wing using his right foot. On the other hand, Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno is very much ‘single legged’. He has the ability to deliver pefect crosses into the box, but one of his main weaknesses is holding onto the ball. He don’t have much other weaknesses.

Like Moreno, Amavi is an also attack minded, but he does not get caught out of position like the latter. Amavi does well to lock down the opponent attacker on his wing and he makes sure that he does not make things easy for his opponent. Moreno’s tackles are often reckless and so is Amavi’s. But the Frenchman has not let things go wrong and has timed his tackles well.

Amavi’s current contract with Aston Villa find until 2020, but since Aston Villa got relegated Amavi will be one of those players who will leave during this summer. And considering that Liverpool are looking for a new Left Back, Amavi might be a good option. Amavi is young and promising and can provide good attacking services and at the same time perform his defense duties well too, unlike Moreno.

No one is sure if Liverpool are really looking to sign Jordan Amavi, but if the transfer actually happens, it will be a good signing for Liverpool.
