Next season will be the first season after the completion of the main stand which will increase Anfield’s capacity by 9000. This was a long term idea which was not taken into consideration, but now it is being fulfilled by FSG. Along with this, the owners need to support the manager, Jurgen Klopp by providing enough funds and to work on the reported targets quickly. FSG have made smart buys before and will look to add quality players to make Liverpool challenge for the top spot again.

The league is going to be tougher than ever with the arrival of Pep Guardiola and the comeback of Jose Mourinho. Targets have to be convinced about the project that is about to get underway under Klopp and with no European competitions, it is going to be a tough task. The left back position is one which has been in debate for a long time now and after a horrible Europa League final for Alberto Moreno, there is a divide of opinion like never before.

People seem to forget that Moreno is just 23 and has performed at a decent level throughout the season. Though his positional play has been questionable during his time at Anfield, he has provide a real impetus when going forward and there aren’t many Fullbacks with such quality. But the counter to this has been that not a lot has improved even after two seasons and the reds need an upgrade for him this summer. Let’s find out that who should be Liverpool’s left back next season by comparing Moreno and all the rumored targets.

Ben Chilwell is a long term target for the reds and can be bought cheaply from Leicester and at just 19, has a huge future ahead of him. Whether or not he can replace the Spaniard is doubtful buy as proven by the rise of Joe Gomez, Chilwell too can prove to be a smart buy for the reds. Another target is Jonas Hector, the German who has been one of the most consistent fullbacks in the Bundesliga in the recent years.

Hector will start for Germany in the Euros and is a more defensive minded player than Moreno. Along with that, his exceptional crosses have yielded many goals for his side, FC Koln. Hector can be said as the left sided version of Nathaniel Clyne as both of them are strong in defense and can attack whenever the team demands too. His asking price is £20 million and the deal may go through really fast if Klopp sanctions the transfer.

Kieran Gibbs has also been rumored, but at 26 years of age, sadly his career has been stricken with injuries and that really has stunted his growth and has fallen down in the pecking order at Arsenal. Gibbs is a decent fullback, but Liverpool do have superior ldft back than him and at £12 million, Gibbs should be the last resort that the reds may have to sign.

The best option would be the signing of Jonas Hector with Alberto Moreno as his deputy. Moreno can improve under serious competition which has been absent as Brad Smith, Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan do not possess the skill to replace the Spaniard. With Hector, Liverpool can have a solid back four which can challenge for the top four and is a proper Klopp player who can become one of the best in Europe.
