Rai Sport has reported that Liverpool’s pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain has taken a major hit after the player has been offered a wage hike by Napoli.

Liverpool has been chasing the signature of the Argentine ace and there have been photos and sightings where Jurgen Klopp was spotted at an Argentina match where he was having a conversation with Higuain’s brother and agent. However, Napoli is desperate to keep hold of their 36 goal striker who set a Serie A record for goals last season.

In an attempt to counter Liverpool’s approach for their player the Naples based club as offered Higuain a wage hike that will take his income to £110,000-a-week. Napoli may have to break the bank to offer such enormous salary to the striker but they are willing to do it in order to keep Higuain at the club. This is a major blow for Liverpool as the main reason attributed to Higuain’s intention to leave has been his salary.
