A rollercoaster season under Jurgen Klopp was full of surprises and included many special moments and some heartbreaking ones too. There is no doubt about the fact that Klopp was the best thing that happened to the reds in the recent past. The onus is on the future now and with no European competitions to look forward to, it will be a difficult task to bring world class players in.
Many positions need an upgrade and the past has shown that Klopp is a master of the transfer business and his targets have rarely failed to live up to the expectations. The ongoing Euros have a plethora of talent on show in France and the reds can take a look at some unearthed gems to target them for a move in the summer. Euros is one of the biggest footballing stage and a player needs to be worthy to perform well consistently in a tournament like that. After two rounds of matches, let’s take a look at the five individual performances at the Euros that should be of an interest to the reds :
1. Daniel Sturridge:
The talented forward has often been not given the credit that he deserves for his exploits at the club level. Sturridge is the only world class striker at the club and is also the one worthy to start every game for the three lions. When England were in trouble against the rivals, Hodgson made a double substitution and brought both Vardy and Sturridge. Both were bang on target and Sturridge scored a last minute winner and sent the nation into euphoria. This winning goal ended all the speculation about his future and there is not doubt that his future lies at Anfield.
2. Martin Olsson:
The Swedish left back has been their best player in the Euros and although Sweden have not done well this Euros, they still have a chance with one game to go. Olsson has made some brilliant runs forward and is one of the top players at this Euros to make runs into the attacking third with 13. Olsson is playing for a Championship club right now and if the reds fail to get their preferred left back, Olsson can be the solution at a low price.
3. Yann Sommer:
The Swiss keeper made some brilliant saves against Albania and was the man of the match for Switzerland. If Liverpool decide to cash in on Simon Mignolet, then having Sommer and Karius can give serious problems to Klopp and the reds can have some world class options for the goalkeeping spot. Sommer made some fine one on one saves and this looks to be the tournament where the 27 year old finally arrive on the big stage.
4. Marco Parolo:
Parolo plays for Lazio and is a box to box midfielder who likes to surge forward and make defense splitting passes and also is known for his defensive abilities. By the looks of it, Parolo appears to be a typical Klopp player and the 31 year old has the experience to bring much needed stability at Anfield. Parolo has covered the second most distance this Euros and his work rate can be of use for the reds.
5. Vedran `Corluka:
The Croatian captain has proved his worth this Euros and is one of the leading defender in balls recovered, clearances, tackles and interceptions. The 30 year old is also Lokomotiv Moscow’s captain and as the reds lack a leader at the back, the Croatian can be the answer to Liverpool’s woes. The passion he showed to continue playing for his country even when he needed medical attention was commendable. He was bleeding still he continued to play, this is the kind of passion that a player is expected to play for the supporters and the club.
