Liverpool have been linked with Argentine player Gabriel Mercado regarding a potential transfer move to the Anfield briefly last month and while so far there has been no news of the same, recent reports suggest that the Reds are back in race to sign the player.
According to the reports, Mercado has decided against a move to Mexican side Monterrey and has set his sights on a move to the Merseyside. Reports from Infobae states that Mercado has terminated his agreement with the Mexican club, so as to increase the chances of heading to the Anfield.
The player is considered to be one of the most consistent defenders in the Argentine Premier division, however his stint at the Copa America wherein he played 5 matches including the final against Chile is said to have caught Jurgen Klopp’s attention.
River Plate boss Rodolfo D’Onofriohas has confirmed Liverpool’s interest on the player however he has stated that Jurgen Klopp may face an unnecessary obstacle of work permit if he seriously wants to sign the player.
