Ilkay Gundogan has been linked with a move to Liverpool since his former manager at Borussia Dortmund Jurgen Klopp took over the managerial post at the Anfield, however over the weekend the player signed for Manchester City although he did confirm that he had spoken with the German manager before making his final decision.
As such it is not clear whether the German manager tried to convince Gundogan to move to the Anfield, however the player seems to have based his decision on the fact that it is Pep Guardiola with whom he will be working.
When asked over the weekend about his City transfer, Gundogan – who cost £21m – told reporters:
“Of course I talked to Jurgen Klopp. We discussed a few things. I asked if I would fit in the Premier League and he said ‘definitely, definitely yes”.
Gundogan moved to City in a deal worth £21m and is expected to be one of the key players in the squad, however he has a patchy history of injury which led him to miss 400 days in 2013-2014 season and currently he is suffering from a Patella injury. This makes him a risk at the squad and in some ways his move to City has saved the Reds from that risk.
