Liverpool face an uphill task to get back into the top four with the competition getting tougher with the arrival of world’s top notch managers like Guardiola and Conte and also with the advent of World class players like Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic. Jurgen Klopp signing a new contract proved that the board and the supporters think likewise and the owners should do everything in their capacity to provide the German with his demands. Red’s transfers till now have been satisfactory as the weak areas like the goalkeeper and winger have been addressed before the start of preseason.
The goalkeeping situation is settled now with the arrival of Loris Karius who looks set to take the mantle from Mignolet while the defense will be made stronger with the arrival of a left back to provide competition for Alberto Moreno. Klopp has himself stated that now after the arrival of Sadio Mane, he is satisfied with the attacking options at his disposal, so that leaves the midfield the only area to take care of, ahead of the new campaign. Though the reds do not lack in number in midfield, they do certainly lack in quality. Jordan Henderson does not look comfortable in a two man midfield while James Milner’s best position seems to be in the wide role. With Joe Allen’s future in doubt, Liverpool are in the market for a holding midfielder and the latest name to be linked with the club is Ignacio Camacho:
The 26 year old started his career at his local club Real Zaragoza before moving to Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2007. He made his debut for the senior side in a 4-2 victory over Barcelona, but sadly injuries got the better of him and the young Spaniard couldn’t settle at the Colchoneros. He was then sold to Malaga in 2011 where he has shown his talent and cemented his name as one of the best midfielders in La Liga. Liverpool have been his admirers since 2014 but the two clubs could not agree a deal for the midfielder.
The reds lacked solidity in midfield last season and Camacho is one of the best in this position and is technically perfect as most of the Spaniards are. He is a classical midfielder who shields his defense and is never shy of going into tackles and likes to keep the play ticking at all times. He is not that good when going forward as his attacking output is not that good but is always a good presence in set pieces as he is a strong no nonsense midfielder.
Though he lacks his expertise in creating chances, he makes up for it with his defensive work. He is valued at £10 million which is a steal for a player of his capabilities. The reds have lacked steel since the departure of the great Steven Gerrard and Camacho can be a perfect replacement for the likes of Lucas Leiva, who has been a loyal servant to the club but now needs to be sold as better options are available at his position. Camacho and Emre Can can be a devastating pair for the reds as with the Spaniard shielding the defense, Can can surge ahead and contribute more offensively. Camacho’s playing style can be compared to Javier Mascherano when he was at Anfield, that is the type of character this squad lacks and the reds will do themselves a huge favour if they do secure the services of Ignacio Camacho.
