Jeremy Mathieu

As we all know Liverpool are in the market for defensive reinforcements and according to the reports from Le10Sport, the Reds are keen on signing Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu into the squad.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will be missing the start of the season due to Achilles injury, the same injury for which he spent most of the last season at the treatment room.

In addition to Gomez, Mamadou Sakho too is suffering from Achilles injury and his presence for the Liverpool’s league opening match against Arsenal is uncertain.

Having sold Martin Skrtel, the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is now looking to bring in anew defender and Mathieu is the German manager’s top target for the same.

Mathieu has made 49 appearances for Barcelona across his two season at the Nou Camp and scored his first goal against Real Madrid in a 2-1 victory during his first campaign at the Spanish club.

Reports suggest that the Reds however may have to face competition for the player’s signature as Turkish side Besiktas have already made an offer of £6m for the player.
