Some strange back-fence talks have been going on around the Anfield these days. The manager has completed seven wonderful signings in the summer transfer market, yet many are reporting that the manager is looking to add more. Well, outgoings are expected from the club, but those will be the names, who are deemed as the surplus for the team. Players like Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke are sure to leave, but the manager is not willing to sell them on a cut-price.

Very recently, the Merseysiders rejected Crystal Palace’s bid of £23m up front plus £7m in add-ons for their striker Christian Benteke. Besides that, the reports have also suggested that Jurgen Klopp blocked a move for Lucas Leiva to Galatasaray. The oldest servant for the Anfield outfit was close on exiting the Anfield’s door, but it seems like the manager has a role for the veteran Brazilian in the squad.

Now, according to the reports, Liverpool have made an inquiry for the Inter Milan midfielder Gary Medel. The same source has suggested that an exchange deal might took place as the Chilean will head to the Anfield and Lucas will head out to the other way. Medel, who was named in the team of the tournament of 2015 Copa America, previously played with the fellow Premier League side Cardiff City, but with them being relegated to the Championship, the ‘El Pitbull’ decided to join the Italian outfit.

Well, besides Emre Can and Lucas Leiva, Liverpool do not really have the concrete options in the defensive midfield. They might use their skipper Jordan Henderson, but given the fact that he is nowhere close to his best form, the manager might have to look for the options and Medel could well be the ‘One’.

“If I had not been a footballer, today I’d be a ‘narcotraficante’ [drug dealer].”

These were the words of Gary Medel couple of years back and this gives us a glimpse of what kind of football he masks. The 29-year-old is unarguably the country’s most loved player and it is safe to say that any team would like to have him in their side.

Yes, he sometimes loves to get his hands dirty, but his participation in the game is something worth mentioning. The Chilean is a reputed footballer and knows how to keep the opposition to the limits. What makes him a “Klopp-type” player is his desire for the sport, and the passion he possesses. Medel is all about the muscular presence on the field, and besides that, he is a chauffeur, who loves to retain the tempo of the game.

To be honest, Medel is one of the best in the business and given his ability to tackle the situation, he is well suited for the Premier League. Liverpool manager might prefer Emre Can for the starting spot, but the German can use Medel and Can in a 4-3-3 formation, which will allow Medel to sit back in deep to guard the defenders, while Can might launch himself forward occasionally. Like I said before, the 29-year-old is a promising prospect in the sport and is surely an upgrade for Lucas Leiva.

He surely isn’t the real replacement for Steven Gerrard at the Anfield because he isn’t that prolific when it comes to scoring goals, but the former Cardiff City man is defenders’ best friend, who loves to cover up the spot at times, and Liverpool do have issues regarding the same especially in the left area and at the centre back as well, hence, the Chilean according to us, certainly fits the bill for the Merseysiders.
