£30 Rated Former Liverpool Target Has Gained Positive Reviews From Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s time at Monday Night Football for Sky Sports certainly revealed a lot about the German. While the former Borussia Dortmund manager spoke about his team’s playing style, he did state that David Silva is the player that he finds extremely dangerous from the current crop of Premier League stars.

Klopp was quoted as saying:

“I like David Silva. He is a wonderful player. He’s everywhere and so skilled and he has such a good attitude. I like his style of play”.

While Liverpool do not have a player of Silva’s quality, they do have the next best thing in Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has been starring for the Reds for a number of years and already has four goals to his name this season.

Rafael Benitez was on the verge of signing Silva

While Valencia were having financial troubles and was up to sell a number of stars, Liverpool did make an approach for the Spanish attacker. Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez tried to sign the Valencia star but could not complete the deal.

He was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:

“We have to work hard and we are trying to have conversations and trying to progress but it’s not easy to sign any player now.”

The club did pull out of the deal owing to reported £30 million price quoted by the La Liga club. Liverpool’s loss was Manchester City’s gain and he joined the club in 2010. The Spanish ace has become one of the craftiest players in the Premier League and already picked up a couple of Premier League titles for the Blue half of Manchester.

Liverpool could have done with Silva’s guile

The Reds might be playing incredible football but signing Silva during the Benitez era could have led the Reds to a lot more titles. Benitez’s reign at the club did peter out at the end and his side lost the spark that saw them win the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup in 2006.

A player like Silva could have easily unlocked a lot of defences and who knows, the Spanish manager could have remained at the club for a few more years. Silva under Klopp may or may not have been a hit due to the German manager’s gegenpressing style of play. And the current Liverpool team isn’t built around just one player but it is a team. Nevertheless, they still could have done with the quality that the Premier League winner possesses.

That is how one small transfer can change the fortunes of a club. Manchester City have built a squad around David Silva and the mercurial attacker is only getting better with each season.
